Limit prose on the home page Usability Guideline
Description
Limit the amount of prose text on the home page - try to use less than 30 sentences.
Help
The first action of most users is to scan the homepage for link titles and major headings. Requiring users to read large amounts of prose text can slow them considerably, or they may avoid reading it altogether.
Applicable standards
Note: The guidelines.usability.gov website has been down since July 2020, although www.usability.gov is still operating and the PDF version of the guidelines is still available.
